brisbane, part two

So many photos!  Here we go…

Day 1 (don’t worry, we were only away for 7 days!)

We walked through the city, then met up with Dave’s brother and walked through the Botanic Gardens and over to South Bank…Toby thought the fig trees were amazing!

Day 2

After some early morning photography from our balcony on the 35th floor, we wandered back through the Botanic Gardens.  After some ice cream we looked through a market in South Bank, then the boys went swimming at Streets Beach (in the rain!  The only time it rained while we were there)

Days 3, 4 + 5

Strolled through a fabulous food market – look at the gorgeous colours of those macarons!  And the huge pans of paella…yum.

Then we spent hours and hours at the museum (particularly its science centre), art galleries and the library…and just playing in the sand!

Days 6 + 7

A spot of shopping on day 6, and then (what the boys have been waiting for since Christmas…) Dreamworld on day 7!  Toby and Dave are on the roller coaster above, third seats from the front (see Dave’s long legs?!).

Good thing they’re so cute or we never would have let them out (those aren’t their feet, by the way…)

Such a lovely holiday!  And now it’s nice to be home…I missed my sewing machine!

brisbane, part one: the child’s perspective

Just back from a glorious seven-day holiday in Brisbane!  Was nice and warm (well, coming from Tasmania’s temperatures it felt lovely and warm to us!) and so much to see and do.  The boys had their own camera (they’ve been saving pocket money and birthday money for six months) – these are some of the images I found on it…

…and some people, too!  I’m usually the one behind the camera, it’s quite a novelty to be in the photograph.  (The cat in the box belonged to Uncle Nathan…and it seemed to like being in the box.  Just so you know.)

More photos in the next few days…

play tents

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a play tent on the blog!

IMG_5474 (Medium)

I received a lovely e-mail this week from a customer who had purchased one of my play tents for her gorgeous little girl’s first birthday.  Clementine’s special party had a gumnut babies theme, so we chose lemony yellows and soft greens.  Doesn’t the party girl and her mama look gorgeous!?  Happy birthday Clementine!

Here are a few of the other play tents that I’ve made…

The weather is perfect for snuggling up inside a play tent with a comfy cushion or three, and a good book…hope you’ve found somewhere warm to hibernate this weekend!

sewing in the rain

I love the sound of rain on the roof.  In my sewing room it sounds so beautiful pattering on the tin roof while I’m cutting and ironing and sewing.

This was during the hail storm we had a few weeks ago – so much hail!  The lawn and deck were white, and there were still big lumps of ice in shady places in the garden the following afternoon.

Lots of amazing colour in the sky as well as the grey!

And some more colours inside too.

Hope you’re enjoying the rain too!

new things…and old things

After a long wait, I finally have some more teething rings back in stock!  These rings came all the way from Greece, and are made from natural, untreated birch wood.

Some circles…

Some birdies…

And some rectangles…all teethers are available at Under the Oak in Reibey Street, Ulverstone for $12 each (while stocks last!).

Along with making some lovely new things, we’ve also discovered some old things these holidays!  Some sweet games and books from an op-shop, which have had lots of love from children already.

Something so special about the colours in vintage books and toys!
